First Expert Group Meeting
 The
first expert group meeting was arranged with the objective
to introduce the project as well as the first draft of project
implementation plan to the experts from GMS countries and
representatives from related institutions in the sub-region
as well as collaborative partners of the project. The meeting
was organized by the project secretariat during 8-9 July 2003
at UNEP RRC.AP in Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.
There were 21 participants consisting of experts from six
GMS countries and collaborative partners from the region.
The participants presented their experiences regarding the
issues related to environmental reviews and assessment. In
addition to the implementation plan presented, there was a
contribution from OECD to the meeting on the presentation
of OECD experience in indicators development and performance
assessment.
The group has provided comments and suggestions to the draft
project implementation plan. The comments and suggestions
are as follows:
(1) Institution analysis should be included as one of the
main activities.
(2) Linkage of activities and project objectives should be
added.
(3) Capacity building plan has to be emphasized.
The issue of sustainability in term of environmental performance
assessment should be specified at both national and sub-regional
levels.
