Conclusion on Solid Waste issue

In the process of industrialization and urbanization, the release of solid waste has been increasing both in its quantity and hazard. The average rate of solid waste collection is only about 53.4% for the whole country. Technology and facilities for waste collection is still inadequate and backward. The separation of wastes at source or the separation of hazardous wastes from municipal solid wastes has not yet been carried out, while the technology for solid waste treatment still does not meet the sanitary requirements.

During several last years, the issue of solid waste management has been receiving considerable attention from the Vietnamese Government. Consequently, the investment in technologies of waste collection and incinerators for hazardous clinic waste has been recognised as a priority. However, the collection and separate treatment of hazardous waste released by industrial activities is still neglected.

Generally, solid waste management is a key issue that should be dealt with on top priority in Vietnam.
