Partnership Brief

The Regional Director of UNEP invited heads of ICIMOD, WWF, IUCN and NTNC on 29 August 2006 to discuss the possible partnership to implement the priority national issues on environment sector. The partners agreed the following steps:

Partnership: The agencies have agreed for an inclusive partnership to jointly carry out the priority issues, starting with 3 programmes. These are:

  1. Mainstreaming Environmental Rights and Sustainable Development into the new Constitution of Nepal
  2. Post-conflict assessment
  3. Bagmati River Conservation

Lead Agency: The partners agreed the lead agency for identified three programme.

  1. ICMOD: Assist with assessment (GIS/RS) in all programmes
  2. IUCN: Inputs to new Constitution
  3. NTNC: Cleaning up of Bagmati River
  4. UNEP: Bring in international and regional experience and guidelines
  5. WWF: Post Conflict Assessment

Partnership Secretariat: The partners agreed that UNEP will host the secretariat of the partnership. The focal points include:
in Kathmandu – Bidya Banmali Pradhan
in Bangkok – Subrato Sinha

Logo: The partners agreed that all documentation or agreed partnership will carry the logo of all partners to ensure the ownership.

Seed Funds: It was agreed that all partners will provide seed funding to carry forward activities under the programme. UNEP has agreed to provide US $ 50K as seed fund.
