United Nations Environment Programme successfully brought together the key environment organizations; International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), The World Conservation Union (IUCN), National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Nepal to form a partnership to identify and implement the priority national issues on environment for sustainable development in Nepal.

On 6 June 2007, under the leadership and witness of the Ministry of Environment and Science-Technology, Government of Nepal (GoN) and support from United Nations Environment Programme ROAP, the partners signed an agreement to firm up the existing partnership, based on a voluntary, non-legally binding Partnership Framework to facilitate environment and sustainable development of Nepal. The five years valid Partnership Framework between the GON, UNEP along with the renowned environment organizations, will facilitate environment, conservation and sustainable development in Nepal in the context of changing political and socio-economic scenario.

These institutions agreed to join hands to form the inclusive partnership to avoid duplication of work, promote improved service delivery, knowledge dissemination, and outreach as per the need of the nation for Environment for Sustainable Development. Furthermore, the partners have agreed to draw upon Comparative advantage of each other and build on the strength of each other.
