Myanmar
Sustainable Development Strategy for Myanmar The Union of Myanmar is located in sub-region of Southeast Asia, specifically in the area known as the Greater Mekong Sub-region. Bordering the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, Myanmar is also located in between the countries of Bangladesh in South Asia and Thailand in Southeast Asia. Myanmar with its unique political and social scenario has made promising progress towards sustainable development while taking the necessary steps towards adopting a National Sustainable Development Strategy in 2007–2008, utilizing a multi-stakeholder participatory process. The Myanmar Agenda 21 was formulate and published in 1997, providing a blueprint for the country’s approach to sustainable development. A stronger institutional mechanism for addressing environment and sustainable development may come about with the passage of an Environmental Protection Law expected in the near future. Myanmar has adopted the National Environment Policy in 1994 and other sectoral strategies. Meeting Report
