Mongolia
Sustainable Development Strategy for Mongolia Mongolia’s commitment to sustainable development started in 1996 with the establishment of the National Council of Sustainable Development (NCSD), fulfilling its obligations and commitment to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) 1992. The NCSD was responsible for the development of the Mongolian Action Program for the 21st Century (MAP-21)and the national sustainable development strategy with assistance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) along with participation form government and non-government organizations, and civil society. Mongolia continues to successfully fulfill its international environmental obligations through various international conventions and treaties to conserve the Earth’s ecosystem. To date Mongolia is party to 14 international conventions including: Biological Diversity (1993),UN framework convention on climate change its Kyoto protocol, Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna, Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals, Vienna Convention on Protection of the Ozone Layer, Montreal Protocol on Substance that Deplete the Ozone Layer, Convention on Combating Desertification, Basel convention on Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal, Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance as Waterfowl Habitat, Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade, Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, and Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. The country successfully cooperates with respective secretariats of these conventions and provides all relevant national reports on country-level implementation of the conventions. Meeting Reports
