Professor and Dean, School of Environment Resources and Development Asia Institute of Technology Prof. Sivanappan Kumar received his B. Eng (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering from University of Madras, India; Master of Engineering (Energy Technology) from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand; and Ph.D from Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, France. He has served as Reader at the Madurai Kamaraj University, India, and was Program Research Fellow of the International Centre of Theoretical Physics (ICTP) at the University of Ancona, Italy. He joined AIT as Assistant Professor in 1995, and currently is a Professor in the same institute since 2005. He is also the Dean of the School of Environment, Resources and Development at AIT since November 2005. Prof. Kumar teaches, carries out research, training, and outreach in the areas of renewable energy resource and technologies, climate change and green house gas mitigation, solar energy, cleaner production, and energy and sustainable development. He has/is supervised (supervising) more than sixty masters and twelve doctoral students, has published more than forty book chapters/monographs; more than fifty international peer reviewed articles, presented more than seventy papers in conferences, seminars and workshops, and more than twenty key note lectures. At AIT, he also has carried out forty five sponsored research projects, equipment testing projects and capacity building programmes. He has organized and has been resource person for international conferences, training programmes, workshops and seminars. He serves as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Energy Sector Management and is a reviewer for Solar Energy, Energy Policy, Energy, International Energy Journal, Progress in Photovoltaics Research and Applications, and Applied Thermal Engineering. He is a member of the International Solar Energy Society and the Institution of Engineers (India) and is listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World, 2001 edition.
