We welcome you to apply for the 2008 Asia Pacific Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development. This has been offered annually since 2004, on a collaborative basis between Tongji University and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. The 2008 Leadership Programme will be held during the week of 15-20 September 2008, at the premises of the UNEP Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD) in Shanghai, China.
To develop a new breed of leadership relevant to evolving challenges of the Asia Pacific region, and foster closer cooperation and coordination in environment for sustainable development, this annual Leadership Programme brings together mid to senior level managers and practitioners from government, private sector and civil society from across the region. Faculty from the Asia Pacific Regional University Consortium on Sustainable Development (RUC) as well as well-known international scholars and officials from United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and development partners will serve as resource persons for the week long Leadership Programme.
The Asia Pacific Leadership Programme is designed around three key dimensions –human, environment and social dimensions. It includes case studies, presentations by participants, field trips and interactive sessions focusing on sustainability issues around the three dimensions. The programme aims to build a knowledgebase on these key dimensions, improve capacity in research and intellectual analysis, as well as enhance technological and leadership skills amongst participants.
The Leadership Programme provides an excellent mechanism for networking with emerging leaders from all five sub-regions of the Asia Pacific region, namely: Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and the South Pacific. Alumni from previous programmes will also participate in the upcoming Leadership Programme as mentors.
