Maglev train
Inside view

A maglev train floats about 10mm above the guideway on a magnetic field. It is propelled by the guideway itself rather than an onboard engine by changing magnetic fields . Once the train is pulled into the next section the magnetism switches so that the train is pulled on again. The Electro-magnets run the length of the guideway. On December 31, 2002, the Shanghai Maglev Line, after more than two years of designing, construction and commissioning by the experts of China and Germany, eventually came into view in the world. So many countries in the world have been involved in the researches of the maglev technology, but only in Shanghai a real maglev operation line was successfully built. The Chinese Prime Minister and German Chancellor were among the first guests in her maiden trip. They enjoyed the pleasure to them by the speed of 430km/h and nodded with smile.

Scenic spot

Yu Garden

Yu Garden
Nice place, covered with typical Chinese architecture, with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. Staying open until late night gathering Chinese and foreign tourists. To discover findings in the shops can be funny. In its middle, you could find Yu Yuan, a calm Chinese garden where you can disconnect from the crazy town outside and have some peace.

The Bund

The Bund
The Bund, also called the Zhongshan Road, is the waterfront area of Pu Xi (West City) that faces the newer part of Shanghai - Pu Dong (East City). The Bund has been regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years, is less than one mile in length, and is a popular destination for tourists. Walking along the Bund at night is a fascinating site, as the entire PuDong skyline (across the river) is illuminated, including the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the 2nd tallest building in the world - Jin Mao Tower. And directly across Zhongshan Road, you will see many different types of structures from Old Shanghai, including: Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and Renaissance.

People's Square

People's Square
People's Square is a spectacular space in the heart of the city. Formerly the city's race-course, a sports arena and a gamblers paradise, the area west of Nanjing Lu was converted after the war to become the People's Square. Unlike many other Chinese city squares, People's Square is not a concrete mass but a vast green area including plants and trees and surrounded by spectacular buildings on all sides. The Square has been renovated again recently and opened up further and many of the old buildings around here are in the process of being ripped down.

Nanjing Road

Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is a walking street. For those who'd rather not fight their way through the crowd, there are small motorized trolleys that will slowly take you from one end of Nanjing Rd. to the other, allowing you to avoid the bustling crowd. Early in the morning, Nanjing Rd. is filled with many small groups of 10 to 30 people doing T'ai Chi. Join in if you'd like a good way to start your morning. During the late morning and afternoons, people are shopping, eating or sipping and one of the many establishments that line both sides of the street. And, at night, the street lights up like the Las Vegas Strip (see photo), where you will see more neon per square meter than you have ever see before. Unless you like really, really crowded areas, stay away from Nanjing Rd. on weekend nights or Saturday and Sundays, when the place is the most jammed.
