
The Assessment Component will continue to support the development of Global Environment Outlook 4, and to implement capacity building on integrated environmental assessment at sub-regional, national and city levels aiming at providing scientifically credible and timely information to policy and decision making processes
Global Environment Outlook 4 (GEO 4):
• Organize regional and/or subregional multi-stakeholder consultations on draft GEO4; and assist in the launching event in partnership with civil society;
• Edit Asia Pacific regional chapter, based on comments received from peer review and consultations, and assistance to others chapters, as requested; and
• Provide inputs to GEO Yearbook 2006/7 and 2007/8.
Integrated Environment Assessment (IEA):
• Publish national reports of Cambodia and Tajikistan;
• Complete IEA activities initiated in 2005 at subregional (Central Asia, GMS); national (Bhutan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan); and city (Dhaka, Katmandu, Shenzhen) levels;
• Initiate new IEA capacity building activities at sub-regional (South Asia, Northeast Asia); national (Myanmar, Laos, Sri Lanka, Yun-nan Province of China, Uzbekistan); and city (Karachi, Shanghai & other two cities) levels;
• Initiate the Asia and the Pacific Environment Outlook process; and
• Finalise and publish the IEA Training Manual, and the City Environment Assessment methodology.
Ecosystem Assessment:
• Publish a water vulnerability assessment at regional level (targeting a possible Convention on Wetlands Meeting in 2008 in South Korea);
• Complete three sub-regional water vulnerability assessments: Northeast Asia, South Asia and Southeast Asia; and
• Assist on development of GEO Deserts.
