Vietnam Climate Change Assessment Report Inception Workshop
The National Inception Workshop on Vietnam Climate Change Assessment Report was held on 25 March 2008 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Multi-stakeholders invited to participate in the development of the report included line agencies from government offices, civil society, academics and NGOs. A preparation team is developing the future plans on next steps of the report development, in areas of report preparation, outline revision, and replicability of the process outcomes to serve other on-going Climate Change efforts of Vietnam. The draft Vietnam Climate Change Assessment Report is expected to be ready for the peer review in May.
The
GEO-4 assessment has used the 1987 report – Our Common Future
– as the baseline, it highlights both environment and development issues,
focusing on human well-being and role of environment in development.

Shenzhen Environment Outlook (SEO) was officially launched in November 2007. It is the first GEO city report in China where the complete IEA methodlogy was fully applied. The process was a successful collaboration among Shenzhen Graduate School of Peking University, Environmental Protection Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality (EPB), State Environmental Protection Administration and UNEP. SEO assessed the major environmental issues in the City, and discussed Human Well-being issues caused by the environmental changes. The report also used scenario development to analyse the unfolded future of the City.
Greater Mekong Environment Outlook - GMEO was released in December 2007. The report identified key environmental issues as great challegnes for GMS countries and international communities. Implications of social and environmental changes were discussed as cross-cutting issues. The report finally provides outlook and recommendations for policy review and development.
Sub-regional
Integrated Environment Assessment: Central Asia:The Central
Asian sub-region consists of the following sovereign countries
Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan. After the collapse of former
Soviet Union the Central Asian countries, with their identical historical,
social and religious traditions have faced a number of similar economic,

in the subregion have galvanized the regional cooperation among
the countries, which consider the move towards environmental security
and sustainable development as priority. To

Impact
of Climate Change on Himalayan Glaciers and Glacial Lakes: Case Studies
on GLOF and Associated Hazards in Nepal and Bhutan (2007):The
global mean temperature is expected to increase between 1.4 to 5.8ºC
over the next hundred years. The consequences of this change in global
climate are already being witnessed in the Himalayas where glaciers
and glacial lakes are changing at alarming rates. Himalayan glaciers
are retreating at rates ranging from 10 to 60m per year and many small
glaciers (<0.2 sq.km) have already disappeared. Our study shows
that the terminus of most of the high altitude valley glaciers in
Bhutan, China, and Nepal are retreating very fast; vertical shifts
as great as 100m have been recorded during the last fifty years and
retreat rates of 30m per year are common.
Nepal
Biodiversity Resource Book (2007): Nepal comprises of only 0.1%
of land area on a global scale, but it possesses a disproportionately
rich diversity of flora and fauna at genetic, species and ecosystem
levels. The Biodiversity Profiles of Nepal 1996 (BPN) was the first
initiative of its kind to document all the information on Nepal's
biodiversity recorded till the year 1995. The objective of NBRB
was to update 1996 Biodiversity Profiles focusing on the flora and
fauna diversity implicitly in the Protected Areas, Ramsar Sites
and World Heritage Sites of Nepal using published information between
1996 and 2005 and field verification.
